Let’s face it, getting rid of things we don’t use anymore is a struggle for all of us. We get so caught up in our day-to-day lives that we put it off more and more. Sure, many of us will have garage sales, and that can certainly help to get rid of a few things and make some money on the side. However, this doesn’t always work as well as we had originally planned. Have you ever gone in your basement or any other storage space, saw something and thought to yourself, “why did I ever buy that?” Chances are, when you put these items in a garage sale, your customers will be asking a similar question: “why would I ever buy that?”
Hoarding is human nature, but when it comes to the sheer amount of things being hoarded, us Americans tend to take things to the next level. Next time you’re moving into a new home or office, consider taking the opportunity to get rid of some things you don’t need and maybe afford them a second shot at life in a new home in the process.
Donate them
Donating the unused things in your home is the best way to go. If you weren’t able to make a few bucks off them in a garage sale, why not donate them for a good cause? Salvation Army and Goodwill are two charities that will accept just about anything that you give them. However, it’s important to make sure that you’re giving them things that could actually be useful to someone and not just giving to them to get rid of it. If you have a kid and they have a lot of toys that they’ve outgrown, you can try taking these to a daycare, hospital, or shelter to see if they’ll accept them.
Sell online
E-commerce sites like eBay and Amazon have made some pretty significant advancements over the years in terms of making it easy for you to get rid of your unused things. It used to be that if you wanted to sell something, you’d have to take a picture of the item and go through the whole process of describing the condition, product number, dimensions, etc. However, with most of these sites, you’re now able to pack up a big box full of your items and send it to your company of choice to be sorted and sold to buyers. You’re probably not going to be making much this way, however, it’s a great way to get rid of stuff in bulk, and if you’re going to be packing stuff anyway, it may be a good option for you.
Take them to a store
Many of us have homes filled with used electronics like old phones, tablets, TVs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and more. Whether they’re working or not, most used electronics stores will accept your old electronics and either recycle them for parts or resell them. Many people don’t realize that they could actually make a pretty hefty sum off their used electronics if they’re still in working condition. You can also try going to local thrift stores to see if they offer a better price.
